Two installers: one for the PC that acts as the band's server, one for the other members' PCs. Phones install nothing.
Install it only once, on the PC that will hold the band's songs and stay on.
For the band's other PCs. Easiest way: open the invite link and click "Install on this PC".
Run the server MSI (Windows asks for permission), then click the notification to open the web interface: enter the band name and your nickname, then "Create the group". The invite link and the group password are shown.
Open the invite link, "Install on this PC", choose a nickname, "Let's go". The 28JoursBox folder appears on the desktop.
Open the invite link (or scan the QR code), enter a nickname, then "Add to Home Screen". That's it.
The PC that holds the band's songs and stays on. An older PC is fine.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| System | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 11, 64-bit |
| Processor | Any recent x64 processor | 4 cores or more, with AVX2 (Intel 4th gen, AMD Ryzen or newer) |
| Memory (RAM) | 8 GB | 16 GB if the PC is also used for other things |
| Graphics card | Not needed | Not needed: heavy processing runs overnight |
| Software | About 2.4 GB (1.5 GB download) | On the system drive (the songs can go on another disk) |
| Word, Excel, PowerPoint previews | Optional: LibreOffice (free) on the server PC | Install it in its default folder: it is detected automatically. Without it, everything else works but Office files can't be previewed. |
| Storage for songs | Depends on your files (see below) | A dedicated disk of 500 GB to 1 TB, plus an external disk for backups |
| Availability | Stays on, sleep turned off when plugged in | Wired network connection |
| Home internet (upload) | 5 Mbit/s, to listen on mobile data | 20 Mbit/s or more (fiber). For the fast direct access: a router that allows port forwarding (how to) |
28JoursBox itself adds little: about 45 MB per analyzed song for the separated tracks (measured: 154 songs = 6.9 GB). What fills the disk is your own files: rehearsal WAVs and Cubase / Studio One projects. Edited and deleted files are also kept 30 days (versions and trash).
| Your files | Separated tracks | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 songs in MP3 / m4a (about 5 MB each) | 0.5 GB | 4.5 GB | ≈ 5 GB |
| 100 rehearsals in WAV, 4 min (about 40 MB each) | 4 GB | 4.5 GB | ≈ 9 GB |
| 20 multitrack Cubase / Studio One projects (1 to 5 GB each) | 20–100 GB | — | ≈ 20–100 GB |
Tracks are separated automatically overnight for m4a files, and on request for WAV and MP3. Plan an external disk of the same size as your data for backups.
Each new song is prepared overnight (1 am to 7 am): beats, chords, separated tracks and fine analysis. Measured on an 8-core PC: about 2.6 minutes of processing per minute of music, so about 10 minutes for a 4-minute song and around 30 songs per night. On a 4-core PC, count about twice as long. New songs are ready the next morning; a large first import can take a few nights. Heavy processing is capped (at most 3 cores for analysis, 6 for separation, one song at a time) so the server stays responsive.
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. About 320 MB for the software, plus the space of the folders you choose to keep on this PC. Cubase or Studio One optional: project locks are set automatically if they're installed.
iPhone or Android with a recent browser (Safari, Chrome). Nothing to install, no storage used: songs play from the server. On mobile data, listening uses about 0.2 to 0.3 Mbit/s.
